At the origin of many great adventures is an encounter – an encounter of minds, passions and convictions. Cheval des Andes story begins with Pierre Lurton looking for a New World territory to establish a joint-venture of Château Cheval Blanc. He had the vision to recreate a Malbec link, reconnecting Saint-Emilion with its past when, until the phylloxera epidemic, Malbec was one of the most widely cultivated grape varieties. This story of exploration led him finally to Las Compuertas, Mendoza. A new story was born, the encounter of the Old World and the New World.

Thanks to fifty years experience of high altitude viticulture, grapes come from two wholly-owned high-elevation vineyards : Las Compuertas, jewel in the prestigious region of Luján de Cuyo, and La Consulta, in the promising region of Valle de Uco. Cheval des Andes is also an expert demonstration of the renewal of the legendary Bordeaux art of blending. It reaches out to those who value tradition, elegance, balance and exploration.
